Developed in France by Emil and Estrid Vodder in 1932, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, non-invasive type of massage that encourages the lymphatic fluid to move so it can drain normally. Detoxification of the body begins in the lymphatic system. A healthy and active lymphatic system uses natural movements of smooth muscle tissue to move lymph along. Surgery, damage or lack of movement can cause a build-up of lymph fluid. Benefits: • Boosts the immune system • Reduces the appearance of cellulite • Assists in weight loss • Increases blood flow in deep and superficial veins • Induces relaxation • Improves wound healing, bruising and scarring • Assists in the reduction of lymphedema and swelling • Aids in the detoxification of the lymphatic system • Supports the reduction of pain and inflammation Healthy people are suggested to have 3 sessions of manual lymphatic drainage every quarter for general wellness. If there is a condition creating more congestion than normal more frequent sessions may be needed. Please note that it is beneficial to wait at least 72 hours between sessions. In preparation for your appointment, please bring shorts and a bra or tank top. In addition, it would be helpful to your lymphatic system to come in well hydrated. If you currently have cancer, heart, kidney, or liver failure, fever, infection, or if you have had a blood clot in the past 2 years Manual Lymphatic Drainage is contraindicated. If pregnant you must wait until after the first trimester to have MLD. Wounds are locally contraindicated.
